Mardi Gras.
Since Blake moved to Louisiana five years ago, he and I have kind of become obsessed with the Louisiana culture.
Now I know he only lives in Bossier City and its barely considered Louisiana, but we like to pretend. With the Louisiana culture come my two favorite things……crawfish and Mardi Gras. Put the two together and you’re bound to have a good time. This past weekend was the Mardi Gras parade in Bossier City. Mardi Gras starts really early in the morning. In order to get a good spot for tailgating and watching the parade you’ve got to get up early and mark off your spot. This way you have a spot for your friends and family, and you don’t have to worry about walking a long way before the roads close. After everything is setup, we usually reserve a cooler of crawfish, potatoes, and corn. This year we got our crawfish from Larry P’s. I’ve had a lot of craw fish and I have to say that it was some of the best. The flavor was phenomenal, and they peeled so easy. I highly recommend them! We had so much fun just hanging out with friends, eating crawfish, and watching all the people in their Mardi Gras get up. As the sun started to go down, we walked over to where the parade would come through. This year’s theme was around the world. Each float represented a different country. I love seeing the colors on the floats and how each one is so different. Catching beads, cups, and toys is always fun too. Tip: Catch as many cups as you can to stock up at home! I love Mardi Gras because it brings everyone together. My favorite moments are just hanging out, eating, and fellowshipping with others. There’s nothing like a group of completely different friends coming together to celebrate. It’s always a fun time and there’s never a dull moment. The best part is everyone is so different. No one is from the same town or even the same state. Everyone grew up completely different. Everyone has different opinions on life. Everyone enjoys things that the other might not. But when together everything just falls into place. Sometimes I just take a step back and go wow… I can’t believe that this is happening. We’re all just one big family and it makes me so happy to know that there are good people in the world and that I get to experience this family. If you ever meet someone different than you take a second and give them a chance. Listen and you just might learn something new. And if you’re ever in the Bossier City area around Mardi Gras time we loved to have you as a part of our family!
