Memorial Day.

Best. Weekend. In a long time. Seriously, it was so relaxing and so much fun. But before I go on about all the fun had this weekend, I’d like to take a minute to reflect on the real meaning of this day.
Memorial Day is always odd to me because it’s happy but at the same time can be really hard. I don’t love saying Happy Memorial Day because the meaning behind it is not really happy. Don’t get me wrong I think that we should enjoy the weekend whether that’s having a BBQ, going to the lake, or just spending time with family. But I also think it is important that we take the time to remember those that are not here today. They and their families have sacrificed so much. They gave their life so that we could live ours fully. I think that its important to honor them and to pray for their families. I couldn’t imagine having someone leave and never come back. With that being said, enjoy the day. If the ones who sacrificed their lives were here, they would probably be doing the same thing. They didn’t sacrifice their life so that we could live in sorrow. They sacrificed their life so we could live in freedom. So live. But also take the time to reflect. Whether it’s doing a workout, saying a prayer, or just pausing for a few moments of silence do something to show your respect. Teach others and your children what this day is all about so that they can see the blessing that we get to live each and every day!
In order to “live” this weekend my friend Hailey and I decided to go camping. I haven’t been camping in about five years and I haven’t been tent camping in about 15. Hailey has been tent camping a few times but the last time she got the flu. I’m not sure why we thought this would be a good idea and frankly no one else thought we would even survive. But we did. We set up our tent. Roasted hot dogs and mar mallows. Fell asleep laying in the sun. Didn’t get eaten by granddaddy long legs. And watched the sunset every night. There were some funny moments seeing as it took us an extra 45 minutes to even get to the camp site because we went the wrong direction and we had a little mouse try and attack us. But we had so much fun. I would highly recommend Caddo Drive on Lake Degray. It was the perfect place to camp with lots of shade, friendly people, and an awesome swim area. They even have a boat ramp and a look out point. We only saw one snake and that was as we were driving out. I think that was God’s way of telling us it was time to go. To reward ourselves we ate Memorial Day breakfast at Cracker Barrel. Eggs and bacon have never tasted so good. A weekend with no make up and little cell phone service was much needed. And if you think you can’t survive on poptarts, lunchables, and hotdogs then you are mistaken. Here are few pictures of us surviving the wilderness. Stay tuned for a video of all the crazy fun we had.
I hope you had a great Memorial Day weekend. Thank you to those that sacrificed your life for my freedom. You are not forgotten.
